Webinar Overview:

Our speakers are Alfonso Mercado, PhD, Associate Professor in the Department of Psychological Science and School of Medicine’s Psychiatry and Neurology Department at the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley and a Licensed Psychologist, and Erlanger Turner, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Graduate School of Education and Psychology at Pepperdine University, SCCAP Diversity Committee Chair, President of APA Division 37: Society for Child and Family Policy and Practice.

Our moderator is Trista Perez-Crawford, PhD. Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine and SCCAP Diversity Committee member.

In 2017, the APA published the Multicultural Guidelines: An Ecological Approach to Context, Identity, and Intersectionality. These guidelines are pivotal to the work that we do as researchers and practitioners. Given the diversity of the country and sociopolitical climate, it is important to understand the current science and how to apply this in your clinical work. This webinar will overview the 2017 APA Multicultural Guidelines and explore how to implement some of the guidelines in your practice. This will help enhance your skills in addressing intersectionality when working with children and families.

After this webinar participants will be able to:

1.     Identify the guiding principles of multicultural competency.

2.     Understand the Ecological Model of the Multicultural Guidelines.

3.     Apply the principles of multicultural practice to working with diverse families

This webinar is being hosted by the Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, Division 53 of the American Psychological Association.
