The upcoming APA Convention will be both in person and virtual.
Our excitement for the 2024 APA Convention this August in Seattle, Washington is growing!
With the support of the SCAAP board and program submissions from members, we have worked hard to create a thought-provoking and stimulating program of presentations designed to offer attendees cutting edge research and clinical practice recommendations in the area of child and adolescent psychology.
Similar to the last two conventions, this year’s programming will include both in-person and virtual presentations. We hope this opportunity continues to provide members with the chance to engage, even if you are unable to attend in-person.
Our symposia and skill building sessions will include topics related to our conference theme of “Lived Experiences of Youth and Families: What we Gain from Listening.” The field of clinical child and adolescent psychology has come a long way in identifying evidence-based assessment and treatment approaches. At the same time, many of the studies validating our diagnostic classifications, assessment tools, and interventions have not reflected the diversity of the youth and families we serve, or the real-world providers delivering their care. As we look forward, it is a priority to learn from listening to youth and families in our research and clinical practice.
We have several highlighted presentations that we would love for you to attend and share with your colleagues. On Thursday August 8, Mental Health in Pediatric Primary Care: Incorporating the Voices of Families and Primary Care Staff; August 9 Redefining Black Youth Mental Health Help-Seeking Using Youth Voice; and August 10 Finding Order Amidst Chaos: Therapy Prioritization and Progress with Families in Significant Crisis. Details of these addresses and all the SCCAP child-focused programming can be found in the SCCAP-APA Brochure.
As a special treat, we will be celebrating our 25th Anniversary with a panel discussion by a few of our past presidents( 25th Anniversary story ), distinguished Career presentations by Ann Masten, PhD and Jarrod Leffler, PhD, and a social hour.
Please check out the exciting schedule of programming in our brochure. The SCCAP Space Noodle (an informal gathering space) will include opportunities for networking, relaxing, learning more about SCCAP opportunities, and mentorship.
