Description
Webinar Overview:
Our speaker is Stephen Hinshaw, PhD, Professor of Psychology at UC Berkeley and Professor of Psychiatry at UC San Francisco.
Our moderator is Jessica Borelli, Associate Professor of Psychological Science at the University of California.
The webinar will define the essential topic of stigma, particularly as related to mental and neurodevelopmental disorders, including a brief history of the concept. Public stigma, internalized stigma, and courtesy stigma will be defined. Although the general public has greater knowledge of mental health conditions than half a century ago, public attitudes have not yet shown a corresponding increase. Reducing stigma involves multiple levels of effort: Policy, changed media images, direct contact, and humanization. This webinar will set the stage for a subsequent 2020 webinar focused specifically on child and adolescent stigmatization.
This webinar is being hosted by the Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, Division 53 of the American Psychological Association.
