SCCAP’s mentorship program aims to consistently develop future leaders in the field of psychology who will strive to uphold the values of scientific excellence and a commitment to the well-being of children and adolescents across a variety of research and clinical settings.
Our program’s mission is to facilitate meaningful mentoring relationships among SCCAP professionals and students. We believe in the power of mentoring to foster personal and professional development, enhance connections to the clinical child and adolescent psychology community, mutually build professional networks and support systems and, subsequently, provide only the highest level of care to the people we serve. WHO: Undergraduate students, graduate students, early career professionals (ECPs). The program welcomes both research- and clinically-focused participants. WHAT: Undergraduates are paired with a graduate student mentor, graduate students are paired with an ECP mentor. HOW: Mentorship dyads are matched based on participants’ interests and goals. After being matched, participants are encouraged to get to know their mentor/mentee through regular contact (e.g., email, phone calls, video chats). FAQWill I be matched with a mentor/mentee in my city? No, you could be matched with a mentor/mentee located anywhere in the country! How often will I talk to my mentor/mentee? It’s up to you! We encourage dyads to discuss their mutual goals and collaboratively set expectations for contact. What should we talk about? The mentorship program focuses on professional development. The most common topics of conversation are CV development, graduate school options, interviewing strategies, and internship/clinical experiences. Dyads will also receive periodic check-ins from the program coordinators that will include suggestions for topics to discuss.
