Exposure-based Interventions and Treatments (EXIT) Special Interest Group

Overview: Exposure therapy is a highly effective treatment for youth with anxiety/related disorders and clinical application is both rewarding and fun. Our goal through the EXIT SIG is to connect exposure enthusiasts with one another and to provide practical support in best practices with children and families.

What We Do:
– Sponsor webinars on increasing effectiveness with youth/ parents/systems (schools) when engaging in anxiety treatment, or special topics like exposures over telehealth.
– Promote presentations at APA/child conferences regarding best practices in providing exposures for youth and reducing family accommodation for anxiety. We will host other activities at APA including SIG-related meetings, poster awards, and fun meet-ups like breakfasts/runs with our exposure-enthusiast
peers.
– Collaborate on research projects, particularly in areas of cutting-edge development such as Virtual Reality-based exposures for youth with social anxiety and/or school avoidance.
– Monitor a Listserv for discussing issues related to treating anxiety and using exposures with children, adolescents, and families.
– Host virtual coffee hours to discuss topics such as ethics of exposures for youth and group-based exposure therapy
