Description

Webinar Overview:

Our speaker is Jessica Schleider, PhD, Assistant Professor and founder and director for the Lab for Scalable Mental Health Stony Brook University.

Our moderator is Jill Ehrenreich-May, PhD, University of Miami.

Despite progress in the identification of effective youth mental health interventions, up to 80% of youths with mental health needs go without services each year. Even among youths who do access care, many drop out prematurely, and few receive empirically supported interventions. Thus, there is a need for scalable youth psychological interventions—especially programs deliverable beyond brick-and-mortar clinics and via nontraditional means to maximize accessibility. This webinar will introduce new developments in research on mechanism-targeted, single-session interventions for youth mental health problems; given their low-cost, brevity, and flexible delivery format, SSIs hold especially high potential for disseminability. Evidence supporting the promise of youth SSIs will be reviewed, including walkthroughs of web-based SSIs designed to reduce youth internalizing distress and increase families’ receptivity to mental health treatment.

This webinar is being hosted by the Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, Division 53 of the American Psychological Association.
